QuiKeys: Current State of Affairs

091122-quikeys-current-state-of-affairs

With the recent release of both Windows 7 and OSX Snow Leopard, I thought it would be a good time to update y’all on the current state of all things QuiKeys.

MAC USERS:

Bad News: Apple’s Snow Leopard launched with some slick new features, but, as with much new in technology-land, some nasty bugs.  The bug that unfortunately affects QuiKeys users, as I understand it, has to do with Snow Leopard not playing nice with the standard USB spec.  Some users are experiencing kernel panics with the QuiKeys hardware (X-keys Pro USB) plugged in.  This being said, it’s truly strange that several QuiKeys users (including me and my new refurb Mac Pro) are successfully using the hardware with Snow Leopard.

Go figure.

Good News: Apple is aware of the issue and an upcoming update should fix the bug.  Until Apple released the fix, I recommend all QuiKeys mac users stick to Tiger or Leopard.

I’ll be posting here when the fix is rolled out to give you a green light to upgrade to Snow Leopard.

WINDOWS USERS:

Good News: (isn’t it nice that it’s only good news here?!?! :D )  We’re *really* *really* close to finishing our 64-bit compatible driver to work with XP, Vista and (hopefully) Windows 7!!!  It’s been a looooong time coming, and I’ve got a special gift for those who’ve been patiently waiting for QuiKeys to be fully compatible with their latest roaring PC. If you’re wanting to be informed when it’s ready to roll out, send me an email and we’ll put you on the list.

Our last item on the current affairs of all things QuiKeys is a doosie ….

BONUS ROUND:

… We’re in the initial development phase of something that all QuiKeys users, and Photoshop users for that matter, can benefit from.  I’m so excited for it that I can’t sleep.  Seriously.  It’s nuts.  And no: it’s not the espresso ;)

It’s another one of those things that’s really built for *us* and our needs, so I’m truly truly excited to get it into development and take it for a spin.  Really, my obsession isn’t healthy.

Can’t say more as I don’t know if everything we’re dreaming up is actually possible, but they don’t call me “the Perfect User” for nothing ;)

Thanks to the entire QuiKeys family for your trust, support and enthusiasm … we’ve come a long way baby, and the fun’s just getting started!!

More to come ….
